摘要: 改編自安德魯·洛伊·韋伯1986年的同名音樂劇,靈感同時來自卡斯頓·勒胡於1910年所出版的法國小說《歌劇魅影》──2004年舒馬克執導的電影改編版《歌劇魅影》將觀眾帶入了通俗劇的世界。通俗劇因使用了固定的人物形象和公式化的情節安排而一直被學者蔑視並被視為低級文化。然而,學者忽視了通俗劇在改寫傳統和公式方面的靈活性和適應性。本論文以《歌劇魅影》(2004)為通俗劇範例,探討編劇安德魯·洛伊·韋伯和喬伊·舒馬克如何利用通俗劇元素並同時顛覆它們,繼而超越通俗劇的限制。從角色塑造和情節安排方面來說,本論文主張這部電影比傳統的通俗劇更加複雜和多維,成為了現代通俗劇發展的一個例證。; Based on Andrew Lloyd Webber`s 1986 musical of the same title, which in turn is inspired by the 1910 French novel Le Fantôme de l`Opéra by Gaston Leroux, the 2004 film adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera, directed by Joel Schumacher, brings the audience to the world of melodrama. Melodrama has long been despised and regarded as low culture by scholars, due to its use of stock characterization and formulaic plot arrangement. However, the scholars overlook the flexibility and adaptability of modern melodrama in rewriting the traditions and formulas. This thesis, focusing on The Phantom of the Opera (2004) as a melodrama, explores how the screenwriters, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Joel Schumacher, utilize the melodramatic elements and subvert them at the same time, transcending the limitations of melodramas. I argue that, different from the traditional melodramas, the 2004 film adaptation of The Phantom of the Opera justifies how this modern melodrama proves itself as a valuable and respectable literary artwork, due to its portrayal of the complexity of human nature and melodramatic but innovative plot rewrite. In this film, the screenwriters utilize the melodramatic elements and subvert them at the same time, so as to go beyond the limitations of melodramas.

摘要: 本研究旨在探討高中生在學測篇章結構題型的作答策略。為了達成此目的,本研究採用個案研究方法,以探討學生在解題過程中的表現。研究過程中,招募了三名來自北部三個不同學校的高三學生,其語言能力分別為低、中及高級。受試者分別參與兩階段的資料蒐集過程,第一階段為線上訪談,由受試者分享他們過往回答篇章結構的學習經驗;第二階段中,受試者則須完成兩份篇章結構試題,隨後填寫困難檢核表並參與半結構化訪談,以瞭解他們在回答篇章結構題目時所採用的策略。\n\n結果顯示了三個重要的發現:首先,這三位學生在準備作答篇章結構題目方面並未獲得太多的教導和練習,在有限的教學中,最常涉及局部閱讀策略。其次,三位學生各自展現出不同的策略偏好,低程度學生傾向採用考試技巧和局部閱讀策略,而中、高程度學生則傾向於結合多種後設認知策略,以及局部和整體閱讀策略。最後,根據學生的評論,他們更容易理解那些主題熟悉且文意發展清晰的文章,豐富的上下文線索也有助於他們作答篇章結構試題。研究結果顯示,英語教師應為學生提供多樣化的策略資源,以應答篇章結構題目。; The current study investigates senior high school students’ strategies of tackling DS test in the GSAT English. To fulfill this aim, a case study approach was employed to explore the problem-solving process of the students. The research recruited three Grade 12 students from three different schools, located in northern region of Taiwan. The participants were at different proficiency levels of low, average, and upper. They were required to take part in two parts of the data collection procedure. The first part included an online interview regarding their prior learning experience. The second part contained two DS tests for the participants to complete, followed by difficulty checklists and semi-structured interviews, to elicit the strategies they have used during the process of responding to DS tests.\n\nThe results reveal three major themes. First, the three students report that they do not receive much instruction on the preparation of answering the DS test. Among the limited instruction, local reading strategies are addressed most often. Second, the students demonstrate different preferences for strategy use. Particularly, the student of low proficiency level tends to adopt test-taking strategies and local reading strategies, while the students of average and upper proficiency levels incline to combine a variety of metacognitive as well as local and global reading strategies. Third, according to the students’ comments, the passage with a familiar topic and clear text patterns is easier to comprehend, and rich context clues also help them to solve the DS items. The findings suggest that English teachers should provide students with diverse resources of strategy use to solve the DS test.

摘要: 在《使女的故事》中,主角奧芙弗雷德作為使女的掙扎是學者討論和關注的焦點,而在其續集《證詞》中,瑪格麗特‧愛特伍娓娓道來其餘高階級女性的痛苦和困境,像是嬤嬤和大主教之女兒。本文藉由米歇爾‧傅柯的權力理論為基礎,以分析《證詞》中的基列國是如何以權力技術(disciplinary techniques)治理而帶給主角們痛苦。而後本文也將透過理論所述之權力和抵抗去探討書中團結和抵抗的重要性。在愛特伍的反烏托邦世界中,權力透過各種權力技術實施和治理而有效地塑造和管理基列國人的行為,例如個體化(individualization)和規範化(normalization)。儘管權力技術有效且高效,但主角們仍舊先後以個人和群體之方式反抗基列國政權。憑藉建立關係、團結和團隊合作,主角們終能抵抗個體化及規範化並脫離基列國的統治。; In The Handmaid’s Tale, Offred’s struggles as a handmaid are the locus of discussion and attention, while in The Testaments, the plight of the Aunts and the Commander’s daughter are unveiled. The Testaments provides a whole picture depicting the suffering of the high-ranking women who speak to Atwood’s political concerns and demonstrate their methods to overcome obstacles. This thesis explores the governing techniques that bring the female protagonists struggles and suffering. It also examines the importance of solidarity and resistance to injustice and status quo in Atwood’s work with Foucault’s theory of power and resistance. In Atwood’s dystopian world, the operation and effectiveness of power are secured by various disciplinary techniques such as individualization and normalization to shape and manage Gileadeans’ behavior. Despite the effectiveness and efficiency of disciplinary techniques, the female protagonists carry out counter-conduct to resist the regime individually and collectively. With their bonds, solidarity, and teamwork, the female protagonists facilitate their liberation from Gilead’s domination.

摘要: 在畢夏的詩作中,自然、環境、地理與旅行一直是重要主題。本文旨在探討畢夏如何思索人與自然的關係,並指出畢夏詩中對於環境的關懷。詩人以「水際」作為人類文明到自然環境的過度場域,其對水岸的刻畫除了展現人與非人間的緊密共存外,也揭示了人在觀察與再現自然時的限制。畢夏並不試圖突破此限制,而是承認其存在,並以詩的語言作為重新審視自然的媒介。畢夏的環境關懷詩學體現科學觀察如何與美學體驗結合,進而提升人的環境意識。 \n本文第一章探討生態詩學如何為環境問題作出有效貢獻,以及畢夏的生態思想如何形塑她的詩作。第二章探討畢夏如何透過「水際」此域限空間處理人再現自然的限制,以及如水般順應與流動的思維方式如何化限制為省思。最末章探討畢夏的旅行與旅居經驗,總結出畢夏透過旅行,傳達自然作為人的居所與人旅居自然的現況。畢夏的生態詩學展現了富流動性的處世與思考方式,此反應自然、隨自然變化的模式使自然在其筆下更為鮮明。; This thesis aims to examine how Bishop mediates between man and nature, and argues that her poetry is environmentally conscious and understands the significance of human and nonhuman coexistence. The water’s edge appears as a poetic setting where Bishop shifts her concerns from civilized territory to nature’s domain. Her nature-oriented poetics demonstrate how scientific observations and aesthetic experience enriches each other, and thereby elevates man’s environmental awareness. Bishop delivers her concerns not by criticism or advocacy, but by demonstrating the sense of mobility that nature gives.\nThe first chapter defines ecopoetry, and investigates how Bishop`s ecocentric belief shapes her ways of perception and description. The following chapter examines how Bishop positions herself between land and water, and how this liminal space contributes to her strategy of dealing with the limitations of human perception of nature, as well as the promises of an adaptive consciousness. The last chapter probes into Bishop’s Brazil poems and sees her travel experience as an active reflection and readjustment of the man-nature relationship. Bishop’s natural imagery—empirical, impersonal, and restrained—aims to reduce human presumption and intention towards nature. Her ecological concerns lie in acknowledging the confrontations between man and nature, freeing nature from man’s utilitarianism, and challenging man to see nature in a new light by breaking preconceptions and reestablishing associations through poetic artifice.
