於民國92年設立，本所為台灣各大專院校中第一個成立之台灣史研究所，目標以擴展台灣史相關學術領域之研究成果，並以訓練專業且優秀之台灣史研究、教學人才自期。本所將努力以台灣近現代之政治、經濟、社會、文化史為主，其中有關戰後台灣人權史方面的研究，亦將成為本所重點之發展方向。
