摘要: This paper uses the ”complex interdependence” model to explain Taiwan`s diplomatic moves in the Asia-Pacific. According to Robert Keohane and Joseph Nye, complex interdependence includes three characteristics: multiple channels of contact, an absence of hierarchy among issues, and the minor role of military force. Although the minor role of military force is not entirely relevant in the Asia-Pacific, the other two variables have become important strategies for Taiwan in expanding the island`s foreign relations. This paper argues that the main reason for Taiwan`s survival despite being under the shadow of the PRC threat is because the island`s foreign relations, especially in the post-Cold War era, are in harmony with the development of complex interdependence in the Asia-Pacific.
