Abstract

濱臨西太平洋的花蓮海線地區壽豐鄉水璉村蕃薯寮有一媲美太魯閣的峽谷，在此流傳著一屬於原住民族阿美族的「遺勇成林」傳說，訴說險峻峽谷的竹林如何而來：或源自競選頭目、互爭美女、鞏固地盤，一片竹林，姿態各異。獨特的地景加上專屬的傳說，正訴說著阿美族的精神。本文旨在論述遺勇成林傳說的各種文本，探討其中蘊藏的意涵，以及試論傳說何以形成的元素。
