|In this study, We examined the result of the research conducted by Ito& Wang (2015), which shows that English speakers tend to focus on the participant in the event who is regarded as the starting point of the Action Chain, whereas Chinese and Japanese speakers focus relatively less on participants at the starting point but instead choose participants at the second point of the Action Chain as a focal point Analyzing those results, we suggest following principles function when these three language native speakers construe the events (1) English native speakers tend to focus on the participant regarded as the starting point of the Action Chain. (2) Japanese native speakers tend to focus on the participant regarded as psychologically close" to speaker (3) Chinese native speakers also tend to focus on the participant regarded as psychologically "close" to speaker as Japanese native speakers, though, they also construe the event following PTS (the Principle of Temporal Sequence) While proposing those principles, we also insist the mechanisms behind them, which are A) In English and Japanese, syntactic relations are expressed with inflection or prefixes and suffixes, PTS regulate them less strictly than Chinese, B) Being Topic-prominent language, Japanese and Chinese native speaker tend to choose their focal points according to psychological closeness of the participant.
