Focusing on Ooshika Taku`s novels Banpu (Barbarian Woman) and Hukujyusou (Adonis Flower), this paper discusses the relationship between colonial evelopment in the Japanese colonies of Taiwan and Karahuto and the colonial subjects` practice of daily life. Also discussed is the connection between the strategies of colonial rule and the ways in which gender, class, race, and ecology are expressed in the texts, which reveals the nature of gender power relations among colonial subjects under Japanese modernization. I show that although colonization brought the possibility for upward social mobility to male colonialists from the lower social classes, nationalism and capitalism conspired to keep most in the lower classes. The analysis shows the close relationship between population flows and the molding of the modern subject, as well as the close relationship between the texts and the social context of the time. Both novels were written following momentous historical incidents that occurred after each of the colonies had experienced decades of Japanese rule, and both focus on descriptions of the physical and mental suffering of the migrant workers. In addition to depicting the social concerns of the time, the author makes a case for an anti-anthropocentric "green" politics. In Banpu, this premise is based on the dehumanization of the aboriginal Taiwanese, which shows that Ooshika had not overcome his nationalism or the hierarchical ideology of the colonialist. In addition, the author`s identification of the male colonialist as the main victim positions women as either controlled or silent. Finally, I stress the importance of studying Karahuto literature from the multiracial society perspective, and suggest that comparative studies of Karahuto literature offer a new way to map Taiwanese literary history.|本稿は、日本植民地下の台湾と樺太を舞台とする、大鹿卓氏の小説〈蕃婦〉と〈福壽草〉を対象に、それらの比較考察を行うものだ。
