Chinese Authenticity

Abstract

Authenticity refers to a person could smoothly express or present his /her honest opinions and values in daily life. This paper summarizes the western researches about the conception and measurement of Authenticity and its influence on self-esteem,mental adaption,and well-being. Because Chinese are different from westerners on aspects like dual self,self-actualization of social orientation and relational orientation. Chinese Authenticity may have different features,implications and mechanism. Further research should focus on Chinese’s acceptance of positive and negative information and the relevant behaviors.

真實自我意指個人在日常生活中,能將自己真實的想法和價值觀順暢地表達、展現出來。本文綜述了西方關于真實自我的內涵、測量及其對自尊、適應和幸福感的影響。由于華人的雙元自我、社會取向的自我實現和關系取向等方面與西方人不同,華人真實自我的面貌、意涵及其運作方式等方面應與西方有不同之處。未來應在華人自我對正負訊息的接受和行為表現上開展研究。
