Bookdealers and Book Collectors in Ancient China

This article analyzes thoroughly the bookdealers in ancient China, discussing their characteristics and relationship with book collectors, who were their intimate partners, friends and assistants. Some ancient bookdealers distinguished themselves in making excellent marketing policies such as efficient information channels, comprehensive services, professional skills, excellent public relations, and reasonable profits. Though there were some cunny bookdealers making exorbitant profits, the mainstream was the bookdealers who, working with book collectors, made an everlasting contribution to the development of ancient Chinese book culture.
