Taiwan’s 5G debut in June 2020 began fierce competition in telecommunication markets, which are expected to bring transformation and disruptive innovations to its media and entertainment industry. With improved network capabilities (high speed and bandwidth, low latency and reliabilities), the 5G-architecure will foster the development of high quality, immersive media services via AR/VR/MR technologies. This paper examines the early development of 5G-enabled technologies and the impacts on immersive media innovations in Taiwan. The research finds that under the government’s four-year 5G Action Plan, most telecom operators made strategic alliances domestically and internationally, and utilize AR/VR/XR technologies to create innovative immersive media and entertainment services (virtual concerts, live sport broadcasting, and 5G museum, and AR TV shows) in the early adoption stage.-
