大岡昇平とフィリピン戦跡訪問──「ミンドロ島ふたたび」に関する一考察

Abstract

大岡昇平（1909-88）は1944年に補充兵として徴兵され ; フィリピンのミンドロ島に派遣された。こうした戦争体験を基にして ; 戦場から帰還した大岡はまず『俘虜記』（1952） ; フィクションの『野火』（同）そして短編戦争小説を発表し ; 自分の体験を描くだけではなく ; 敗走の絶望感をレイテの兵士に託してフィクションをも書き上げた。1967年のフィリピン戦跡慰問団に加わり ; 再びレイテ島とミンドロ島に訪れていたのであった。この再訪体験は「ミンドロ島ふたたび」（1969.8）という紀行文的な長編小説に描かれている。戦地／死地への再訪という行動は ; 大岡の戦争体験において一種の再確認や決着という効果があるはずであり ; それがもたらした意味を無視することはできない。本論文は先行研究の成果を踏まえ ; 遺骨収集と慰霊巡拝という戦後処理の動きに注目し ; 大岡昇平が遺族としてではなく ; 当事者としてかつての戦地／死地を再訪したことの意味を「ミンドロ島ふたたび」を通して明らかにする。

大岡昇平（1909-88，Ōoka Shōhei）於1944年被日本政府徵召入伍，派駐於菲律賓民都洛島（Mindoro），隔年成了美軍戰俘，在菲律賓萊特島（Leyte）的收容所待了一年。回到日本的大岡昇平，以此戰爭經驗創作了《俘虜記》（1952） ; 《野火》（1952）等戰爭小說，並在1967年參加了菲律賓戰爭遺跡訪問團，再度踏上了民都洛島。他將這趟旅途見聞寫成一篇中篇的紀行文〈再赴民都洛島〉（1969）。途中「我」不僅追悼死亡的戰友們，也再次確認了自己的戰爭記憶。此外，文中還透過菲律賓今昔對照，思考戰爭遺緒，包括戰後菲律賓的社會現況 ; 日本與菲律賓之國際關係等。〈再赴民都洛島〉為大岡昇平戰爭系列作品之一，但前行研究資料不多，且偏重於作品中情感描寫之分析。本論文將補足前行研究對時代背景考察的不足之處，整理大岡昇平參加菲律賓戰爭遺跡訪問團之經過，進而分析大岡的書寫策略與創作意圖，指出〈再赴民都洛島〉異於其他戰爭遺跡紀行文之特色與意義所在。

Ōoka Shōhei (1909-88) was enlisted by the Japanese government during the Pacific War in 1944, and his regiment was stationed in the Mindoro Island of the Philippines. Back in Japan, he produced war novels based on his war experience. In 1967, he joined a group visiting the war relics in the Philippines, thus making a return to Mindoro. Later, he recounted this experience in his travelogue ＂Mindoro Revisited＂ (1969). In this work, Ōoka`s first-person narrator remembers his comrades and reconfirms his war memories. In addition, by comparing the past and present of the Philippines, this work reflects on the legacies of the war, including the current conditions of post-war Pilipino society and the relationship between Japan and the Philippines. This paper will make up for the deficiency in the investigation of its historical backgrounds by providing an account of the process of Ōoka`s participation in the war relic visiting group. It will analyze Ōoka`s approach to and objectives of ＂Mindoro Revisited,＂ thereby identifying the characteristics and significances that distinguish ＂Mindoro Revisited＂ from other war relic travel writings.
