助動詞ヌ與時間的流向

Abstract

上古日語助動詞ヌ，於長船(1959)、野村(1989)中定義為表示「在從未來回溯到過去的時間的流向中，所實現之動作的完成」。針對此見解，本文以萬葉集中用漢字「去」字所表示的助動詞ヌ為中心進行考察，並得到兩項結論如下。\r\n1. 以「去」字所表示之助動詞ヌ的使用中，「去」字的「前去」之義與「從未來回溯到過去」之時間理解間有直接關聯的例子經考察後並不存在。反之，卻有可將「前去」之義解釋為空間上移動的例子。\r\n2. 助動詞ヌ的使用中，存在可解釋為「從過去到未來」之時間理解的例子。此類用法無法如野村(1989)中以例外論之。\r\n綜合上述結論，本文重新定義助動詞ヌ所表示之義：\r\n相較於助動詞ツ表示「在從過去到未來的時間的流向中，所實現之動作的完成」，助動詞ヌ意指「其他不以助動詞ツ表示之動作的完成」。\r\n在此定義下，助動詞ヌ不僅可表示「從未來回溯至過去」之義，亦不排除其他用法。

According to Osafune (1995) and Nomura (1989), the auxiliary verb ヌ in Old Japanese denotes “the completion of an action achieved in the current of time which flows from future to the past.” Regarding to this characterization, this study examines the instances of ヌ, which are written in Chinese character 去, mainly in Man`yōshū, and leads to findings as below.\r\nFirst, instances of ヌ in the notation of 去 that can be considered directly connecting the meaning of “to go”, which 去 denotes, and the understanding of time flowing “from future to the past” cannot be found. Rather, some instances can be interpreted with the meaning of “to go” in a spatial way of reading. In addition, contrary instances of ヌ related to the understanding of time flowing “from the past to future” are observed. These instances cannot be dealt with as the exceptions mentioned in Nomura (1989).\r\nBased on the above findings, the meaning of the auxiliary ヌ can be concluded as follows: In contrast to the auxiliary ツ denoting “the completion of an action achieved in the current of time which flows from the past to future”, the auxiliary ヌ denotes “the completion of an action which is not applied to ツ”. By this definition, it not only includes situations with the understanding of time flowing “from future to the past”, but also other conditions.

古代日本語の助動詞ヌは、長船（1959）、野村（1989）において「未来から過去へ、という時間の流れの中で実現した動きの完了」を意味するものとされている。本稿は、この見解に関して、萬葉集の「去」字で表記されたヌの例を中心に検討を行い、以下の結論を得た。\r\n・「去」字で表記されたヌにおいて、「去」の持つ「行く」に通じる性格が「未来から過去へ」という時間把握に直結する例は見出されない。むしろ、「行く」という性格が空間的なものと解される例も存在する。\r\n・ヌには「過去から未来へ」という時間把握に関わる例がある。\r\nそれを、野村（1989）の述べるように例外的なものとして処理することはできない。\r\nまた、本稿は、上記の結論をふまえて、助動詞ヌの意義について次のことを展望する。\r\n・助動詞ツが「過去から未来へ、という時間の流れの中で実現した動きの完了」を意味するのに対し、ヌは「ツには該当しない完了」を意味する。その意味する範囲に「未来から過去へ」という時間把握を持つ場合が含まれることもありうるが、それに限られるわけではない。
