The Politics of Reform in Japan and Taiwan

Abstract

The article discusses the electoral reform in Japan and Taiwan. For decades, these Asian countries elected their legislatures using the single nontransferable vote system, but recently, both countries have adopted new electoral systems to stimulate economic development. They are striving to attain both economic growth and political reform.
