摘要: 有時被稱為“小拉薩”的達蘭薩拉是海外藏族社會中的地理、文化、宗教與經濟上的中心。筆者2003年第一次去達蘭薩拉之前,以為這是位在山林中的一個既安寧又單純的小村莊,不過我所發現的地方既不安寧且非常不單純,並很快地察覺到了如活潑、複雜、政治化與國際化等形容詞更適合描述達蘭薩拉的環境,我到了當地後不到幾個小時就看到了各種各樣的畫面:穿著傳統服裝的藏族居民、穿著僧服的尼姑與和尚 (包括不少的外國人)、印度商人與乞丐、積極招攬客人的喀什米爾店主、穿著美國流行風衣服的年輕藏族、好幾百個外國旅客(不少正在穿印度與西藏的服裝)、義大利餐廳、啤酒屋、數不盡的網咖等等,更不用提那些混在人潮之中的牛、羊、驢子、猴子等動物,這些畫面塞滿了構成“小拉薩”的小小三條街道之中。以下希望本論文將針對這個既複雜又活潑的海外藏族之都提供新鮮的討論與分析。\n 值得一提的是,這篇有關海外藏族的文化變遷與適應的研究是一個西方學者的成果,換言之,筆者在田野地點的印象與經驗以西方人的想法與感受為根據,來自不同背景的學者必定會察覺到不同的世界,另外一方面,我必須承認在選寫論文的過程中,我進入了敏感的政治領域,在這種範圍之內,文字的使用受各方觀察者的關注,我盡量小心翼翼地選擇最適當且最中立的詞彙,不過在談及西藏問題時,「難民」、「流亡」、「入侵」與「解放」等字必然會造成部分讀者不悅,以我的看法,文字就是文字,以筆者的身分,對於陳述的內容有清楚的理解,但是談到西藏這方面,一些特定的詞彙帶著濃厚的涵義,因而在此請求讀者的理解與忍耐,至少在閱讀本論文的過程,即使碰到「錯誤」的用法,不必敏感地馬上反應,我希望在摸索的過程當中,筆者與讀者可以從中察覺文字造成的誤解是取決於各方早已經建立的成見與期望。
