「華やぐいのちなりけり」--岡本かの子「老妓抄」の老妓像をめぐって

Abstract

＜年々にわが悲しみは深くして いよよ華やぐいのちなりけり＞ 岡本かの子「老妓抄」（『中央公論』昭和十三（1938）年十一月）は、その晩年の傑作である。また、モチーフとして結末の短歌「年々にわが悲しみは深くして⁄いよよ華やぐいのちなりけり」は、実際に作品より先に出来上がったものであり、1938年5月『短歌研究』に発表された「抜歯譜」八首の中の一つである。発表された翌年の昭和十四（1939）年二月に芥川賞候補作品に押されたほどの秀作でもある。この作品は「彼女の心をはっきり物語っている作品でもある」といわれていて、彼女の文壇における地位を不動にしたものともいえよう。 物語は、「だんだん素人の素朴な気持ちに戻ろうとしている一老妓が、ある青年苦学生を引き取って世話をする」1 という話である。 この作品において主人公の老妓を表現する「諦めの知らぬ」生命力は、おそらく岡本かの子の「老いの力」に対する解釈でもいえよう。本論文の目的は、「老妓抄」における「諦めの知らぬ生命力」がどのように表現され、そしてその老いの描写が「老妓」像を構築するにはどのようにかかわっているかを明らかにすることにある。\r\n「生命流轉傷悲深 歲歲年年風華增」 岡本加乃子的〈老妓抄〉(1938年11月)為其晚年的傑作。小說結尾，同時也是主題的短歌。「生命流轉傷悲深 歲歲年年風華增」這首短歌事實上是小說發表前便先行發表於《短歌研究》(1938年5月)的短歌系列〈拔齒譜〉八首中其中之一。〈老妓抄〉在第二年1939年2月被提名為「芥川賞」候補作品，也可說是穩固岡本加乃子在文壇不動地位的作品。故事敘述老年藝妓打算從良，同時成為一位立志發明青年的經濟後援者。老年藝妓對青年的戀慕「不僅是作者自己的夢想，同時也是豐餘的生命力所孕育的美麗願望」。作品當中年老藝妓所表現的「永不退讓」的生命力應是岡本加乃子對「老年生命力」的詮釋。本論文的目的在解明〈老妓抄〉中如何表現「永不退讓」的生命力，以及對於老去的描寫如何型塑年老藝妓的形象。\r\n“As time goes by, my sadness accumulated that turning my life flowering” Okamoto Kanoko’s The Memoir of an Old Geisha is her masterpiece in her later years. This work ends with the Tanka poem “As time goes by, my sadness accumulated that turning my life flowering” which is also the main theme of this work. This Tank poem has been published with the other seven Tanka poetry in Tanka Kenkyu right before this short work appeared. The Memoir of an Old Geisha was nominated for the Award of Akutagawa the next year after being published. It also made Oakamoto become a distinguished writer. This story is about an old Geisha who tried to quit her job, then becoming the patron of a young man who likes to be an inventor. The vitality as “never giving up” is supposed to be the way that Okamoto depicted the vitality the old. The purpose of this paper will shed light on the description of the vitality as “never giving up” of the old and the image of the old Geisha in The Memoir of an Old Geisha.
