A new MARC 21 format, integrated with USMARC and CAN/MARC, is being designed for the coming twenty-first century and the generations of the various materials. For the purpose of promoting bibliographic format exchange, this paper describes the development and the history of MARC 21, followed by an analysis of its structure, implementation methods, and applications. |
