| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | 我的研究計畫重述中華民國(台灣)與美國的傅爾布萊特教育交換計劃的歷史。我先談到1947年在南京簽訂的中美教育交換協定，開啟了世界第一個傅爾布萊特計畫。之後由於國民政府失去了中國大陸的統治權,這個草創的傅爾布萊特計畫變成了短命的泡沫計畫;但是它又在1957年11月於台北重新復活。歷經了數次的外交、政治及經濟方面的挑戰,「台灣傅爾布萊特學術交流基金會」已經成長茁壯了六十年。「台灣傅爾布萊特學術交流基金會」已有超過三千多位的受奬者完成了教育交流的工作,所以無論從任何角度來評價，它都是全球最成功的傅爾布萊特計畫之一。然而，除了對於這個組織和它所進行的教育交流作一番歌功頌德之外，我同時也採取批判性的研究目的。在我書寫屬於中華民國的傅爾布萊特計畫歷史的同時，我也會試著讓讀者們更加了解，在台美關係的歷史脈絡之下，權力關係如何形塑了教育交流的工作樣貌。 | |
| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | My research recounts the history of the Fulbright educational exchange program between the United States and Taiwan, Republic of China. I begin with the signing of an agreement in Nanjing, China in November 1947 to create the world’s first Fulbright program. This seminal Fulbright program was short-lived due to the Chinese Nationalists’ loss of mainland China but would be reborn in Taipei in November 1957. Through numerous diplomatic, political, and economic challenges, Fulbright Taiwan has grown over more than six decades. By any estimate, Fulbright Taiwan is one of the most successful Fulbright programs in the world with more than 3,000 grantees having done educational exchanges. Yet, instead of giving only a congratulatory account of the institution and educational exchanges, I also aim to take a critical approach. In writing a history of a national Fulbright program, I will try to give a better understanding of how, within the context of U.S.-Taiwan relations, relationships of power worked to shape education exchanges. | |
