Vietnam is not only an authoritarian state but more specifically a market-Leninist state, which creates conflicting conditions for the establishment and development of non-state media. On one hand, it embraces a market economy that modernizes society and provides resources for aspiring publishers; on the other hand, it maintains a Leninist system that outlaws non-state actors in general and non-state media in particular. This thesis views non-state media through the lens of modernization theory, highlighting both the audience and publishers.

zh_TW
dc.description.abstract (摘要) Vietnam is not only an authoritarian state but more specifically a market-Leninist state, which creates conflicting conditions for the establishment and development of non-state media. On one hand, it embraces a market economy that modernizes society and provides resources for aspiring publishers; on the other hand, it maintains a Leninist system that outlaws non-state actors in general and non-state media in particular. This thesis views non-state media through the lens of modernization theory, highlighting both the audience and publishers.en_US
