Network culture opens a window into the engagements of marginalized groups' identity politics in digital spaces. The Asia Pacific is not completely pro-LGBT but is home to the heart of the global Boys’ Love TV production. Puzzling how gendered identity politics democratizes within network culture, this dissertation proposes to study Boys’ Love TV dramas aired on YouTube. With their primary production in Thailand, these TV series offer a unique case of the gendered network culture of online communities centered on engagement regarding contested homosexual and homonormative video content. Applying a netnographic method pioneered by Robert Kozinets, the study’s approach is mixed-method with three phases: (1) immersion into the discourse both from the screen and from the viewer comments; (2) computational sentiment analysis and social media analysis that traces hegemonic and marginal comments based on their engagement; (3) observation during Boys’ Love fan meetings. These phases combined yield the political dynamic between ideas within the network culture and help conceptualize the democratization of gendered identity politics. The process is guided by a conceptual framework where network culture in social TV is reflected from two interacting facets: a media interface and a social interface. The findings are expected to show how Boys’ Love Social TV stimulates gendered identity political discussions by promoting acceptance of marginalized gender groups based on identity, orientation, preference, and expression. These findings contribute to LGBT social movements by providing an affective and cognitive avenue for socio-political communication. |

| zh_TW |
| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | Network culture opens a window into the engagements of marginalized groups' identity politics in digital spaces. These findings contribute to LGBT social movements by providing an affective and cognitive avenue for socio-political communication. | en_US |
