dc.description.abstract | U.S.-China Ambassadorial talks during the Cold War were characterized by hostile, irreconcilable negotiations. Since the 1970s, the American perception of Beijing`s negotiation behavior has changed significantly. Although having grown more complex over half a century, the PRC`s style of diplomacy still retains essential negotiating characteristics. This paper attempts to provide a picture of Beijing negotiating style by evaluating (1) important negotiations on Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, and (2) the PRC`s behavior prior to negotiation, during the negotiation process, and after reaching an agreement. | - |
