This article discusses the electronic library and serveral related topics, including: 1. what is the electronic library? definition and components of the electronic library are described; 2. the current developments of the electronic library, some examples of the electronic library are described; 3. the differences between the traditional library and the electronic library; 4. the impacts of the electronic library on library activities, such as: acquisition, classification, cataloging, circulation and user services; 5. the impacts of the electronic library on users, including: catalog access, book borrowing, reference services and journal articles access; 6. the change of the role of librarians and their responses; 7. the problems of the electronic library; and 8. future prospects of the electronic library. | |
