摘要 近觀資訊技術的發展包括電腦、軟體、硬體、電信、電子傳輸、磁碟貯存、超媒體及多媒體等,使用圖書館的角色亦發廓清,但亦互有重疊,由"紙本圖書館"、"自動化圖書館"、"網路圖書館"直至目前的"電子圖書館",打破疆界的"虛擬圖書館"。\\r俄亥俄大學圖書館應用資訊技術以迎合多變需求,其努力已具成效且為顯例:始自1960年代OCLC的建立,而後發展成世界性的圖書館網路,1970/1980年代的區域圖書館系統及網路的發展,至1990年代OhoiLINK的形成。\\r本文詳述OhoiLINK的起源、計劃過程、服務宗旨及成效、安裝、特點、管理、財政及未來發展。
In reviewing recent developments in informantion technologies including computers, software, telecommunication, electronic delivery, optical disk storage, hyper- and multi-media, library roles fall into clear but often over-lapping stages:"Paper Library", "Automated Library", "Networked Library", and now heading toward "Eletronic Library", with "Virtual Library" just over the horizon. The efforts of Ohio academic libraries to effectively incorporate information technology to meet changing needs is both illustrative and instructive. These began with the establishment of OCLC in the 1960s, its subsequent growth into a worldwide library network, the development of local library systems and networks in the 1970s and 1980s, and the formation of Ohio LINK in the 1990s. Focusing on Ohio LINK, the paper provides details on the origin of ther concept, planning process, service goals and benefits, implementation, special features, governance, finance, and the road ahead.
