Syrian Refugee Crisis日期 2016 上傳時間 3-Aug-2016 10:18:20 (UTC+8) 摘要 This study examines how two selected American and Chinese newspapers framed, sourced and crafted narratives attributing responsibility in the coverage of the ongoing SyrianRefugee Crisis. Through a content analysis of 624 news stories sampled from The New YorkTimes and People’s Daily between June and December 2015, this study will examine andcompare the frames employed by the two newspapers in the coverage of the refugee crisis. Theways in which framing may have changed over the selected six months in 2015 will also beexplored, as the time period witnessed several key events, namely the death of 3-year-old AylanKurdi in September and the Paris Attacks in November, both of which sparked intenseinternational media attention. The implications of these events on the framing of the refugeecrisis will be discussed. The study will also examine how the U.S. and Chinese newspapersportray refugees: as individuals or as masses. The results of the content analysis reveal thatAmerican and Chinese news outlets frame the conflict differently and place responsibility ondifferent players, in accordance to the respective countries’ policies towards the region. 參考文獻 Aalberg, T., Strömbäck, J., de Vreese, C.H. The results of the content analysis reveal thatAmerican and Chinese news outlets frame the conflict differently and place responsibility ondifferent players, in accordance to the respective countries’ policies towards the region. en_US dc.description.tableofcontents Table of ContentsAbstract 2Acknowledgements 3Contents 4List of Tables 5Chapter One: Introduction 61.1 Research Purpose 81.2 Research Context 91.3 Significance of Study 161.4 Organization 20Chapter Two: Literature Review 212.1 Historical Background of Syrian Refugee Crisis 212.2 Crisis Coverage 252.3 Framing and International Relations 29Chapter Three: Research Questions and Methods 373.1 Research Questions 383.2 Methodology 383.3 Data Sources 39The New York Times 39People’s Daily 433.4 Time Frame 453.5 Data collection 473.6 Coding procedure 50Chapter Four: Results 534.1 Implications from RQ1 534.2 Implications from RQ2 594.3 Implications from RQ3 724.4 Implications from RQ4 744.5 Implications from RQ5 78Chapter Five: Discussion 805.1 Chinese policy and newspaper framing 835.2 U.S. policy and newspaper framing 78Chapter Six: Conclusion 94References 101Appendices 116Appendix A: Codebooks 116Appendix B: List of NYT articles quoted 123Appendix C: PD original Chinese excerpts 125 zh_TW dc.format.extent 2086910 bytes - dc.format.mimetype application/pdf - dc.source.uri (資料來源) http://thesis.lib.nccu.edu.tw/record/#G1034610131 en_US dc.subject (關鍵詞) 媒體框架 zh_TW dc.subject (關鍵詞) 內容分析 zh_TW dc.subject (關鍵詞) 敘利亞難民危機 zh_TW dc.subject (關鍵詞) Media Framing en_US dc.subject (關鍵詞) Content Analysis en_US dc.subject (關鍵詞) Comparative Study en_US dc.subject (關鍵詞) Newspaper Coverage en_US dc.subject (關鍵詞) Crisis Communication en_US dc.subject (關鍵詞) Syrian Refugee Crisis en_US dc.title (題名) 國際傳媒之人權與責任敘事: 比較中美報紙以何框架看待敘利亞難民危機之內容分析 zh_TW dc.title (題名) A Comparative Content Analysis of Chinese and American Newspaper Framing of the Syrian Refugee Crisis en_US dc.type (資料類型) thesis en_US dc.relation.reference (參考文獻) Aalberg, T., Strömbäck, J., de Vreese, C.H.
