The US MARC 21 Community Information Format is a format for description of nonbibliographic resources that fulfills the information needs of a community. The Community Information Format allows libraries to include individuals (people), organizations, programs or services, events, and other resources that can help library users gain information they need, enrich their lives, solve problems and enhances their enjoyment of life. Although this format was initiated in the early 80`s, first published in 1993, and it was recently inc1uded in MARC 21 family of formats, but it is the least used format. This paper attempts to introduce the US MARC 21 Community Information Format, its design concept, characteristics, applications, problems and examples.
