The Dating Industry has always remained a relatively small-scale industry, oftentimes seen run as micro-businesses across the globe. Despite that fact, the industry is valued at nearly 100 million USD in the United States alone. The number of startups has seen steady growth over the years, although not many survived for over a number of years. The Dating Industry is no exception, where this research observed few companies stand strong and resilient in this strenuous and competitive climate for startups.
This research is based on a case study of DatingDoc. Firstly, the research starts by examining the significant changes within the startup from its inception to its current state. The research then compiles the business activities of DatingDoc onto a Business Model Canvas, which serves as a basis of our core research. The core, which is the Lean Startup theory, the research use to apply onto the Business Model Canvas of the case, and realize a Lean Startup case for the Dating Industry. In studying the case, the research found that zoom-in pivots fit best with the growth methods of micro-businesses. And it is also important to solidify the logic behind a fitting growth engine to push the company forward. Furthermore, the idea of securing a formal company structure in operations is especially important for industries that are niche, in order to find success and longevity in the future of the company.
In conclusion, this research found that it is conducive for the growth of the micro-businesses as long as they make the best of the core selling points and expand their businesses in due course.
