| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | As one of the Confucian societies, higher education in Taiwan has experienced varying stages of change, from a colonial to a Chinese system, now moving into a modern system. Owing to divergence of global trends, coupled with local concerns since the 1990s, Taiwan’s higher education system has encountered several challenges as those in East Asia. This chapter aims to provide background information for the readers by exploring the evolution and changes in Taiwan’s higher education system from a historical perspective. The objectives and impacts of the policy change at each stage are stated respectively. An introduction to the content of the book is highlighted at the end of the chapter. | |
