“National security” refers to a country’s ability and state of ensuring its interests and security in various aspects such as politics, economics, military, and society. Its purpose is to safeguard a nation’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, the safety, and well-being of its people. Specifically, national security encompasses many aspects, including economic development, public order, military defense, crime prevention, and public health, with different countries having varying definitions and priorities for national security. This study primarily focuses on the top 20 world power countries as research samples, using globalization and democratization as entry points, and incorporating factors such as cybersecurity, terrorism, world risk, defense expenditure, GDP per capita, inflation, and total population. By collecting data on the status of sample countries from 2016 to 2020, an empirical model is established using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method to analyze the correlation and impact of various explanatory variables on the national security of world power countries, exploring the determinants of national security among these countries. The regression results from the empirical model reveal that “globalization”, “cybersecurity”, “world risk”, “defense expenditure”, “GDP per capita”, “inflation”, and “total population” have a positive and significant impact on the national security. In contrast, “democratization” has a negative and significant impact on the national security. Additionally, “terrorism” has a negative explanatory power regarding national security, its impact is not statistically significant.
