This thesis introduces how small states in the European Union strengthen informal relations with Taiwan through the case studies of Lithuania and the Czech Republic. The differences and similarities of these two case studies offer insight into the benefits and consequences of strengthening non-diplomatic ties with Taiwan. In response to Lithuania's recent Taiwan-friendly policies, it faced strong diplomatic pressure and economic coercion from China. The Czech Republic has gradually strengthened its relations with Taiwan over time and faced less severe responses from China. The perspective of analysis is the role of small states in international relations through the lens of asymmetry theory.

zh_TW
dc.description.abstract (摘要) This thesis introduces how small states in the European Union strengthen informal relations with Taiwan through the case studies of Lithuania and the Czech Republic. The perspective of analysis is the role of small states in international relations through the lens of asymmetry theory.en_US
