| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | 本計畫的主要提問是：究竟在美國對全球進行文化冷戰的架構下，1950年代的臺灣扮演 什麼角色？透過設於臺灣的美國新聞處，其具體工作任務、推展形式與執行情況又是什麼？ 美新處的哪些人員與臺灣的哪些機關或個人有密切關係？更重要的是，美國1950年代在臺灣 的宣傳作為，究竟對執政的黨政宣傳體系與民間的美國印象，發生了什麼影響？ 論者一般皆謂美國對戰後臺灣文化影響深遠，但除卻文學與部分媒體領域，過往對於美 國在臺所進行的文化宣傳工作卻未有體系性研究。近年冷戰史研究從政經與軍事外交層面， 轉為關注兩大陣營的宣傳攻防，觀察資訊與媒體如何滲入人心，將此種取徑稱為文化冷戰。 過往研究多以歐美為對象，因此，本計畫預計用美國國家檔案館所藏龐大的一手史料，包括 美國新聞總署與駐外使館檔案，重建1950年代美新處在臺的組織、人事與工作實況，以探討 美國在東亞或華人圈的所實施的文化冷戰戰略，補充既有研究的空白。另一方面，臺灣並非 僅是單純美國執行政策的場域，在地政府對宣傳方式的模仿學習，以及在特定議題上的交鋒 議論，也成為理解臺美關係的另一面向。 | |
| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | What this project wants to ask is: what is the role of Taiwan in America’s strategy of culture cold war? What is the concrete mission, work way and practice condition of USIS in Taipei? Who can keep good friendship with Taiwanese officers and intellectual? And more important, did the propaganda in 1950s Taiwan have any effect upon the propaganda system of KMT and the image of America? Generally, the researchers say that America is the important elements of postwar Taiwan culture. But, in addition to literature and some media research, there is no systematic study of America’s propaganda in Taiwan. In recent years, the cold war study focuses not on the political, economic and military affairs, but the “word” and “mind” war between USA and USSR. This what called culture cold war approach focuses on the western case, and this project wants to use Taiwan as a case to understand America’s strategy in East Asia and Chinese places. This project will use the records of USIA (RG306) and of Foreign Service Posts of the Department of State (RG84) in National Archives of America to explore the culture cold war in Taiwan that has not been fully discussed before. This project will rebuld the history of the organization, personnel and activities. In another, this project will also focus on how the KMT propaganda system study from USIS to rethink the history of KMT’s propaganda. | |
