摘要 The concept of grit with respect to Taiwanese military cadets is notably distinct from the construct of grit formulated by Duckworth et al. (2007), who defined it as encompassing perseverance of effort and consistency of interest. The specific form of grit applied to Taiwanese military cadets has been substantiated through several studies by Hsiung and Yu (2022, 2023). It comprises the five sub-concepts of goal commitment, interpersonal support, self-efficacy, growth mindset, and positive response. Improvements in these areas can enhance the adaptability of cadets to school environments, their subjective well-being, and their physical fitness performance and can reduce their dropout intention and depressive emotions. Additionally, these sub-concepts have been demonstrated to be effective predictors of dropout behaviours. Thus, the distinct effects of grit on Taiwanese military cadets should be investigated. However, the methods that can effectively enhance such cadets' level of grit remain unclear. The present study adopted a survey design and involved 476 undergraduates who were recruited from a military school to complete three self-report psychological questionnaires. After the exclusion of incomplete survey responses, 458 responses were included for subsequent analysis. The participant cohort comprised 339 male students and 119 female students (132 freshmen, 119 sophomores, 103 juniors, and 104 seniors). Structural equation modelling was employed to test several research hypotheses. The findings revealed that the participants experienced a greater sense of hope when they engaged in more deliberate practice. This increase in their sense of hope significantly increased their level of grit; that is, hope significantly mediated the association between deliberate practice and grit. On the basis of these results, a preliminary group counselling program aimed at enhancing the grit of military cadets was developed; this program can serve as a reference for educational and counselling practices in military academies.
