dc.description.abstract (摘要) | Taiwan's new President Lai Ching-te faces both domestic and international challenges, including a double minority government, issues around energy shortages and the China issue. The controversial parliamentary reform bill passed in May 2024 temporarily increased his popularity, fuelled by the perception that the opposition parties are too aligned with China. But Lai’s bold stance on Taiwan's independence may provoke Beijing, while his ability to guide the island's future is also critically reliant on addressing domestic demands for stability and preserving the status quo. | |
