Summary | Psychological preparedness for disasters among frontline civil servants still has not been fully explored in current disaster management research. To fill this gap, this study focuses on frontline civil servants tasked with disaster management to examine the extent of their psychological preparedness for disasters and explore influential factors to increase such preparedness. This research surveyed frontline civil servants in district offices across six special municipalities in Taiwan to collect and analyze data, garnering 926 valid responses. The empirical findings reveal that compared to that for earthquakes, psychological preparedness for floods scored higher on average. The regression analyses indicate the significance of disaster management job self-efficacy, trust in government, serving as primary staff, and having psychological preparedness-related training. With respect to trust in government, confidence in the disaster management capabilities of affiliated district offices and local police and fire stations is crucial. Future studies should keep exploring differences in risk perception, sex, and educational level in psychological preparedness for disasters. |
