This study explores the syndrome of high-performing victim from the viewpoint of boss, because the boss will experience of episodic envy and identity threats when facing the high-performing subordinates, and in turn elicits their self-perception of victimization from the boss. In addition, this study also investigates the moderating role of boss’s psychological collectivism and outcome dependence, subordinate’s ingratiation between the relationship of performance and victimization in order to understand the boundary conditions of high-performing subordinates’ victimization. Next, this study also examines the impacts of victimization on individual performance, such as enjoyment of work, boss-directed negative gossip, voice behavior, psychological health and physical symptoms which are not examined to clarify the consequences of high performance victims in the past researches. In short, the purpose of the present study is designed to investigate the victimization of high-performing subordinates from the boss’s interpersonal harming, and proposes a vertical dyad model to explore the victimization syndrome and its boundary condition in the workplace.
