Environmental Lobbying
In China’s authoritarian context, large private companies are playing a growing role in shaping environmental policy. This thesis analyses the different forms that environmental lobbying can take in China through a comparative study of Huawei and “Build Your Dreams” (BYD). In this environment, the strategies of influence of these companies are based on their relationship with the Chinese Communist Party (CPP) and their alignment with its objectives. Their environmental commitments give them societal legitimacy and strategic advantages, but they also raise ethical issues such as greenwashing and a lack of transparency. This research sheds light on the dynamics of collaboration between the Chinese state and private companies regarding Chinese environmental governance, and calls into question the real impact of these companies’ environmental strategies on public policy. Aplin J, Hegarty H. This research sheds light on the dynamics of collaboration between the Chinese state and private companies regarding Chinese environmental governance, and calls into question the real impact of these companies’ environmental strategies on public policy. en_US dc.description.tableofcontents 1.
