摘要 當前科學教育所傳授的確定性知識,遇到高度不確定性的環境風險爭議,常感捉襟見肘,凸顯我們需要從更寬廣的視角,了解科學在解決環境風險爭議上的貢獻與侷限,從而發展出更被信任的科學知識,來面對外在環境的挑戰。本計畫希望透過科普影片的製作與傳播,針對近年來社會重大爭議,如RCA職災、石化業污染、與代理孕母等議題,來討論科學與科技在這些社會爭議事件中的角色,培養一般公民對科技與科學發展更深層之認識,同時促進科學界發展更為貼近社會需求的科學。本計畫為跨校研究團隊所組成,與台灣科技與社會研究學會密切合作,領域方面橫跨公共衛生、生物科技、環境工程、大眾傳播等專業,參與指導這個系列科普節目的製作。此計畫將培訓科普傳播人才,並積極將影片運用於師培課程進行科學教育推廣,更期待透過不同於傳統科教的呈現手法,將科學帶進社會爭議場域,促進社會大眾對於科學運用與知識辯證的旨趣,使人民感受到科學文化、知識與自身生活環境息息相關,從而提升對生存環境的掌握度,減少風險與爭議的發生。
The determinate knowledge presently taught in science education classrooms is often insufficient when people encounter environmental risk controversies with high levels of uncertainties. This highlights the fact that we must understand the contributions and limitations of science in addressing the environmental risk disputes from a wider perspective in order to develop more reliable scientific knowledge to deal with the external environmental challenges. This project aims to produce and distribute the series of popular science films to capture the major social controversies in recent years, such as the RCA workers’ health struggles and law suit, petrochemical industry pollutions, or surrogate mothers etc., to discuss the role of science and technology in these social controversy events. The objective of this project is to cultivate a deeper understanding for the common citizens in science while inspiring the scientific community to develop science and technologies that are more befitting to the needs of the society. This program is composed by an inter-institutional research team that is in close cooperation with the Taiwan Science Technology & Society Association. The specialties of the team members who will oversee the production of this popular science program cover the fields of public health, biotechnology, environmental engineering, mass media, and other professions. This program will foster the talents in popular science communication and use the films in science education curriculums. By adopting this unconventional science education presentation method, we hope to bring science into the field of social controversy; promote the public interests in scientific applications and knowledge; enable the people to feel how scientific culture and knowledge are closely linked to their own living environments; and thereby enhance the people’s mastery of the living environment and decrease the occurrence of risks and disputes.
