| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | 本研究計畫嘗試探討1995-2017年間中國出口品帶來的國際競爭對台灣公開發行廠商研發行為的影響。本計畫將著重討論以下幾個問題： (1)面對中國的出口品競爭，台廠的研發策略會有什麼樣的改變？ (2) 廠商的研發策略是否會因所屬產業有許多垂直差異化的可能而較願意嘗試突破？及(3) 台灣廠商是否會考量本身和中國出口品的品質差異改變其研發行為？本研究會統合使用台灣新報資料庫內的廠商財務資訊、貿易資料、與台廠在台灣與美國的專利資料進行分析。在延伸研究裡，本研究會進一步考慮對中國大陸投資對廠商研發的影響，以及使用更多元的升級指標。 | |
| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | In this project, I will investigate the relationship between trade competition, quality difference, and innovations using Taiwanese firm level data. Specifically, I will examine (a) how firms adjust their innovation strategies when facing intensified Chinese global competition, (b) how potential for vertical differentiation affect firms' innovation, and (c) how quality gaps between Taiwanese firms and their Chinese competitors can explain potential heterogeneous innovation responses. To answer these questions, I will study Taiwanese public offering firms between 1995 and 2017 and merge comprehensive firm level information from the Taiwan Economic Journal (TEJ) database with trade data and patent data from the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office (TIPO) and United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to conduct my analyses. As my extensions, I will use alternative measures of firm upgrading to ensure my findings are robust, and also account for the effect of outward FDI to China. | |
