This study investigates the impact of minimum wage increases in Taiwan on fraud crime rates among young adults. Using a Difference-in-Differences (DID) model, it examines how county-level variations in the low-wage population affected by minimum wage hikes relate to crime outcomes. Results show that in counties with a larger proportion of the population affected, minimum wage hikes have a statistically significant positive effect on fraud crime rates among individuals aged 24-49. By contrast, minimum wage increases show no significant effects on larceny crimes across all age groups, but there are statistically significant negative effects on drug-related and violent crimes among individuals aged 18–23 and 40–49, respectively, consistent with findings in the existing literature. These findings provide empirical evidence that minimum wage policy may have heterogeneous impacts on criminal behavior across different age groups. Agan, A. Y., & Makowsky, M. D. (2023).
