This study conducts an empirical evaluation of the economic impact of Chinese foreign direct investment (FDI) on Indonesia’s provincial growth, using a two-way fixed effects panel regression model and mediation analysis. Utilizing annual data from 34 provinces between 2013 and 2020, the study finds that Chinese FDI has a statistically significant and positive effect on regional economic growth. However, this impact is uneven across provinces, depending on structural readiness and specific transmission channels. The effect is more pronounced in regions with stronger educational attainment and greater trade openness, suggesting that local absorptive capacity and global market access mediate the growth benefits of FDI. The mechanism analysis reveals that Chinese FDI contributes to regional growth not only through direct capital inflow but also by enhancing human capital and shifting industrial structure toward more globally integrated sectors. Provinces such as Central Sulawesi and West Java illustrate how resource endowments and industrial agglomeration can amplify these effects. Overall, the study offers valuable insights for policymakers to design targeted strategies that optimize the developmental impact of foreign investment, ensuring inclusive and regionally balanced growth across Indonesia.

Utilizing annual data from 34 provinces between 2013 and 2020, the study finds that Chinese FDI has a statistically significant and positive effect on regional economic growth.
