| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | Potency is life force. Prowess is the skill manifest in transforming potency into fecundity and refers to the economic activities of the entire biosphere. Potency is amoral and creation and destruction are relative. One fellow’s destruction is another’s delight. Prowess among humans, however, has considerably narrowed the field of acceptable delights and added distinct moral dimensions to universal acts of tapping potency. Tracing some of the political norms through which various types of human potency tapping activities take place, some symmetrical forms emerge. While the emergence of these human political forms has a chronology, one never replaces the other and they exist together in the landscape of contemporary Cambodia. This chapter explores the contours of destruction and delight and exposes the shaman’s tricks through which ancestors are transformed into commodities and the unquestioned moral values naturalizing this process. There are no research questions in the following pages. Only provocations, and the weaving of new tales in the darkness. | |
