| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | Existing IR literature largely examines China’s strategic logic through conventional political philosophy, with less focus on the influence of CCP ideology. This article argues that the CCP’s ideological objectives have been underestimated, as reflected in the renewed emphasis on the United Front Work Department since Xi Jinping took office in 2012. While often seen as targeting domestic and diaspora groups, the United Front strategy also extends to China’s broader political influence. This study conceptualizes its logic through the Balance of Relations theoretical framework, analyzing China’s engagement with the 16+1 states in Europe and ASEAN members in Southeast Asia. The article will investigate the evolution of the United Front since the birth of the CCP; the analyses follow the thread of each CCP leader’s foreign policy goals, with a specific focus on the current general secretary’s emphasis on the International United Front execution. Two key concepts adopted from the Balance of Relations theory are applied to pillar the analysis: prior resemblance and improvised resemblance. | |
