This study explores the application of Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) among highly self-critical adult women in Taiwan, analyzing their psychological transformation processes and how they construct culturally grounded meanings through therapy. Using qualitative content analysis, three adult women with pronounced self-critical tendencies participated in nine sessions of CFT (27 sessions in total). Data were drawn from session transcripts and reflective forms and analyzed through a theory-driven lens based on CFT principles. The findings revealed that participants experienced seven interwoven stages of transformation in self-critical behavior: awareness, differentiation, tolerance, integration, cultivation, transformation, and adaptation. The impact of CFT on emotional and psychological health was reflected in seven thematic domains: emotional release, trauma awareness, emotional monitoring, emotional acceptance, construction of inner support, recurrence of anxiety, and psychological transformation. Six therapeutic elements were identified as particularly influential: compassionate dialogue (reconstructing inner voices and regulating emotions), compassion meditation (activating the soothing system and containing emotions), compassionate self-imagery (building internal safety), safe place imagery (bodily grounding and self-soothing), multiple-self dialogues (transforming inner conflicts into compassionate integration), and compassionate letter writing (emotional release and self-acceptance through words). Within the cultural context, six overarching themes emerged: women’s self-transformation under cultural expectations, emotional restraint and compassionate permission, gender roles and compassionate empowerment, shame culture and compassion transformation, bridging attachment gaps through compassion, and the redefinition and resistance of feminine power. Eight practical recommendations are proposed to guide clinicians in applying CFT more effectively within Chinese cultural contexts. Overall, participants not only reshaped their inner dialogues but also reconstructed self-worth and inner support systems through CFT, demonstrating enhanced emotional resilience and relational change. This study highlights the therapeutic potential of CFT for highly self-critical women in Taiwan, emphasizing its unique efficacy in evoking self-compassion, transforming shame, and rebuilding inner connectedness. The findings offer valuable implications for future clinical practice and culturally sensitive psychotherapy research. (2016)。A study of social values and demographic change: Empirical evidence and the implications for Taiwanese women.(碩士論文,國立政治大學)。 Arthur, N., & Lee, C. (2016)。A study of social values and demographic change: Empirical evidence and the implications for Taiwanese women.(碩士論文,國立政治大學)。 Arthur, N., & Lee, C.
