題名 新興市場跨國企業之控制-管理能力觀點
Control Within Emerging Market Multinational Firms: Role of Managerial Capabilities

摘要 跨國企業本質上由一群地域分散且目標不一致的組織所構成。由於總部及子分司之間的關係時為衝突,跨國企業的挑戰之一, 為如何有效控制與協調子公司群的行為以期實現企業最大的整體價值。此三年期的計劃擬以管理能力的觀點來探討這個議題。個人認為構成跨國企業控制效能低落的主因, 來自總部對於外國市場層次管理能力的投資不足,及子公司管理者對於總部層次管理能力的投資不足。據此,此計畫擬就新興市場跨國企業對子公司的控制機制發展理論, 實證研究, 及管理意涵。
A multinational firm consists of “a group of geographically dispersed and goal-disparate organizations” that include its headquarters and subsidiaries (Ghoshal and Bartless, 1990). Given the inherent tension and conflict between headquarters and subsidiaries, a key challenge to the multinational firm is how to effectively control and coordinate among subsidiaries’ behaviors so that their collective actions maximize the value of the multinational firm as a whole. The thee-year proposal aims to address this issue from the perspective of managerial capabilities. In particular, I maintain that ineffective control within multinational firms is partly attributed to the under-investment in own local market capabilities on the part of the headquarters and the under-investment in firm-specific managerial capabilities on the part of the local subsidiary managers. Building on this idea, I plan to explore the mechanisms through which emerging market multinational firms can use to enhance their control on foreign subsidiaries.
