摘要 The present study investigated the prevalence, forms, and effects of workplace bullying among research assistants in higher education, and identified the coping strategies employed by victims. A mixed-methods approach was adopted, combining a questionnaire survey (N = 301) with semi-structured interviews (N = 34) across three Taiwanese universities. Results indicated that research assistants experience workplace bullying more frequently than other academic personnel, a disparity largely attributed to hierarchical vulnerability. Chi-square tests of independence, supplemented by post-hoc analysis of adjusted standardized residuals, revealed significant gender and employment-based differences in coping repertoires. Specifically, male victims and part-time assistants were significantly more likely to utilize avoidance strategies—such as 'ignoring' the behavior—rather than approach-oriented coping. Part-time assistants reported higher levels of physical intimidation from supervisors, and these intergroup differences were statistically significant. Moreover, vulnerable subgroups demonstrated a greater reliance on avoidance coping strategies, a pattern that may contribute to the persistence of bullying dynamics and ongoing emotional distress. These findings underscore the necessity for targeted professional development and robust institutional reporting channels. This research highlights the health implications for non-standard academic workers and provides a statistically grounded framework for enhancing early intervention strategies in higher education.
