| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | 創業投資產業的高度發展關係著新興產業內的創業活動是否興盛，這樣的發展也吸引了許多政策制定機構、潛在投資者和新興創業家的高度關注。然而，推廣新創事業的高度風險往往阻礙潛在投資者投身到這個市場，主要乃因為重要的資訊在創業投資者（venture capitalists）和新創事業（start-up entrepreneurs）之間無法順暢流通。有鑑於此，過去相關文獻發現新創事業投資其成功之關鍵在於消除資訊傳遞的相關障礙。本兩年期的研究計畫將從社群網絡的兩個方向來搭建創業投資者和新創事業團隊的資訊傳遞橋梁。第一年的計畫研究焦點在於探討透過教育網絡的連結能否正向影響創投注資企業的績效。我們預期的主要貢獻在於發展出一套方法，來克服衡量創投兩造雙方的團隊彼此間教育背景連結的困難。第二年的計畫，我們將進一步檢驗經由政治捐獻和政治影響力的政治連結，看是否會促使創投注資之新創企業能有更好的績效表現。值得強調的一點，我們將透過這個兩年期的研究計劃以人工蒐集與訪談的方式全面性地匯聚台灣創業投資交易的完整珍貴資料。我們預計此資料庫將包含所有創投業者及創投注資企業之主要經理人的個人的學歷、過去工作經驗以及創業投資和新創事業兩邊的公司特徵，並結合三種商業資料庫以及兩種政府部門的統計資料。其中，政府統計資料詳細揭露的政治獻金流向資訊，以及通過與國家發展基金的鏈結產生的政治影響力，是我們衡量政治連結的指標。本計畫所致力建置而成的研究資料庫將可促進教育連結和政治連結的測度。我們預期透過此龐大資料庫所進行之一系列相關假說的驗證，將可詳細地勾勒出成功新創事業投資案的藍圖，以解決在新創事業投資中資訊不對稱的問題。本計劃將在新創事業的相關研究文獻上，產生學術與實務的重要貢獻。具體而言，本計劃是第一個將關鍵的社群網絡(教育以及政治連結)和創投注資企業的績效進行結合的研究。本研究將建置的資料庫可讓我們更完整的釐清社群網絡在創投注資之企業成功發展中的因果關係。此外，為了研究成果的穩健性考量，我們也使用多種網絡連結測度去檢測創投注資之企業的績效和多種社群網絡連結的設定。 | |
| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | The tremendous boom in the venture capital industry supports the high entrepreneurship in the modern sectors that attract lots of attention from policy makers, potential investors, and prospective entrepreneurs. However, promoting new venture is highly risky and may hinder potential investors to plummet into this market because crucial information cannot flow between venture capitalists and start-up entrepreneurs. Yet, the literature finds the removal of the barriers to the flow of information is the key to success of new venture investments. This project proposes two ways to bridge the information dissemination and ease the barrier of crucial information flow between venture capitalists and start-up teams. First, we examine how educational network connectedness positively affects the performance of VC-backed firms. We propose an innovative way to overcome the difficulty in measuring the linkage of educational history. Second, we use political donations and political influence to proxy for political link. We investigate whether and how political link benefits the VC-backed start-up firms. The lack of research in the VC social network literature is because of data limitation. We will hand collect venture capital deals in Taiwan, including all the personal details of educational history, past work experience and firm features in both venture capitals and start-up companies. We plan to combine three commercial databases and two governmental datasets revealing political donations and political influence via linage with National Development Fund. Our proposed unique dataset to be constructed will facilitate the measurement of educational link and political link. With a series of hypothesis tests we will learn how to trace out sources of successful new venture investment to ease the problems caused by asymmetric information in the new venture investments. This project has potential to make important contributions to the literature. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that links social network (educational and political links) to VC-backed firms’ performance. More importantly, we compile a variety of datasets to create a readily available sample that allows us to better address the role of social network in motivating the success of VC-backed firms. Also, we examine several measures of firm performance and various setup of social network linkage for robustness concern that will contribute to be the tools for further study in venture capital markets. | |
