Entrepreneurship literature has long focused on stories of entrepreneurial success. Not until recently the research community has raised the attention on studying failure in order to develop a more holistic understanding of entrepreneurship. Specifically for sequential ventures, what is the mechanism on entrepreneurial decision-making to re-start a new venture after the failure in past business, which is a difficult experience for an entrepreneur went through. In spite of such speculations, venture re-start intention after past failure remains to be discovered. Extended from the last year’s (2015) MOST research project, this proposal continuous to build up a wilder understanding of how an entrepreneur learned after failure that leading to the next venturing intention when opportunity comes. This research proposal aims to explore the post process of failure in entrepreneurship that incorporates failure learning, human/social capital residual, illusion of control after failure, and how all these factors contribute to the decision-making of new venturing opportunities occurred. This study hopes to understand how failure can be utilized as a springboard to bounce into a new venture by tapping into a failed entrepreneur’s cognition learning and resources transition within the social environment. To achieve this objective, a two-year research scheme is proposed, combining the qualitative and quantitative methods, to conduct an in-depth study. In the first year’s qualitative research, an exploratory study will be conducted to understand the mechanism and develop a theoretical model. In the second year, the quantitative study will be applied to validate the result of the first year’s study.
