| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | This study uses detailed, contract-level data from Taiwan to examine how natural disasters affect policyholders' insurance purchasing behavior. Our empirical results show that natural disasters significantly increase the amount of coverage purchased by policyholders, and this effect decreases over time. In addition, natural disasters have a more significant impact in primary disaster-affected regions. We also find that behavioral responses vary across disaster types. Furthermore, we reveal differences in insurance responses across regions with varying disaster frequencies and occupational groups. Overall, our findings provide empirical evidence on how natural disaster shocks shape individuals’ insurance decisions, emphasizing the varying impacts associated with different types of natural hazards. | |
