| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | The metropolitan area of Taipei-Keelung-Taoyuan is home to 10 million people turning the region into one of the new global megacities. Despite dwindling birth rates and a super-aging society, urban expansion is increasing in both vertical and horizontal direction. The consequence of this expansion is an increased pressure on ecosystems in the city as well as on urban fringes and a decrease of ecosystem service provisions. This work presents a multitemporal estimation of built-up area dynamics and its impact on ecosystems along with its service provision for the Taipei City. The area was chosen as it forms and administrative island within the municpality of New Taipei City area which limits expansion. The mutlitemporal assessment is based on pixel classification of Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper and Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager data as well as on secondary data derivatives and indices with yearly time slices classified using a U-Net Deep Learning architecture combined with a ResNet50 backbone. The model training accuracy reaches 84 % over all training classes on average and provides consistent results for different time slices, presenting a granular picture complementing the Urban Centre Database grid assessment of human settlements. Results show a gradual increase in built-up area of 4.3 % over the last 25 years and a reduction of regulating ecosystems by approximately 8.8 % mainly in the periurban space. | |
