摘要 Online communities have become important sources of user innovation, yet we still know relatively little about how digital interaction translates into individual-level innovative behavior. Drawing on social cognitive theory, this study examines how internet meme, which a prevalent form of digitally embedded engagement influences user innovative behavior through inspiration, and how this process is conditioned by political ideology. We conceptualize internet meme as users’ involvement with symbolic digital content. Using survey data from online community members and a regression-based moderated mediation approach, we find that internet meme positively affects user innovative behavior indirectly through inspiration. Moreover, political ideology systematically moderates this psychological transformation process: the inspirational and innovative effects of internet meme are stronger among users with more liberal ideological orientations and become significantly weaker as ideological orientations grow more conservative. By identifying internet meme as a novel antecedent of user innovation, uncovering inspiration as a key micro-level mechanism, and demonstrating ideological heterogeneity in innovation outcomes, this study advances technology and innovation management research on the micro-foundations of user innovation.
