| dc.description.abstract (摘要) | The purpose of this study is to apply non-parametric data\r\nenvelopment analysis (DEA) and parametric stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) to\r\nexamine the efficiency situation of correctional institutions in Taiwan. We extend\r\nthe consistency conditions proposed by Bauer et al. (1998) to examine the\r\nconsistency between those two efficiency techniques. This study also examines\r\nthe drivers of efficiency for correctional institutions. The empirical results indicate\r\nthat correctional institutions in Taiwan have considerable technical inefficiency,\r\nbecause of unfavorable “resource usage.” The data also shows that DEA and\r\nSFA approaches nearly meet the conditions of consistency. We find that due to\r\nmission differences between different correctional institutions, they have different\r\nimpacts on efficiency performance. We also find that quality performance has a\r\npositive impact on the efficiency performance of correctional institutions, implying\r\nthat better correctional quality causes better efficiency. | - |
