摘要 Nurturing reflective teaching and improving critical-thinking instructions are two important goals of teacher education. Both goals can be achieved only when teachers-in-training are provided with opportunities for building professional knowledge and for exhibiting reflective teaching practices. The major author developed the Computer Simulation for Teaching General Critical Thinking Skills (CS-TGCTS), a program that integrates reflective teaching and critical-thinking instruction. This software tool, written in Visual Basic 6, is designed to cultivate reflective thinking in teachers and to help them to improve their effectiveness in teaching critical thinking. To achieve this goal, several interventions specifically designed to provoke self-awareness and mindful learning in participants have been incorporated in the CS-TGCTS software. The proposed presentation will report the results of a study conducted at National Sun Yat-Sen University in Taiwan. The participants were 149 preservice teachers enrolled in a two-year teacher-training program. This study tested the following hypothesis: Employing treatments, including immediate feedback concerning teaching behaviors and literature related to professional knowledge, would increase awareness of teaching behavior and provoke reflections in teaching, which, in turn, would further increase mindful learning in professional knowledge and bring about improvements in teaching behaviors. The event sequence in the proposed presentation will include (1) a brief demonstration of the CS-TGCTS program, (2) a brief description of the Taiwanese preservice cohort, (3) a display and discussion of the results obtained in the study, and (4) suggestions for further simulation development and for future research goals. Audience dialogue will be encouraged during this final phase.
