dc.description.abstract (摘要) | Barack Obama won re-election despite having to deal with a stagnating economy and a record high unemployment rate. The election result is a repudiation of the argument that the economy usually dominates and determines the presidential election. What the result of 2012 Presidential election reveals is that the electoral college system, demographic change, and gender gap are the main reasons that the Democratic Party candidate was victorious. The Democratic Party now enjoys advantage among the minorities, women, youth, liberals and supporters of gay rights. Asian Americans who used to vote 70% for the Republicans are now voting 70% for the Democrats, leading to a change within the party coalition. We can even claim that last year’s presidential election is a re-aligning election for Asian Americans. | en_US |
